About Himachal

If a landscape had the power of casting spells, then the Sangla valley would be a magician extraordinary. Once seen, it is a place that can never be forgotten. So aptly portrayed in the song “Nothing But” by John Kay. The gorgeous green valley of Sangla is where the tired mind and body get relaxed and rejuvenated.

Sangla Valley, also known as the Baspa Valley, is located in the greater Himalayan Range of Himachal Pradesh. The valley extends from Karcham to Chitkul, the last village at the Indo-Tibetan border. The gurgling River Baspa flows through the valley, with glacial streams rich in trout. Surrounded by lush, forested slopes of cedar and pine, the valley abounds in orchards of apple, apricot and walnut.

The word ‘Sangla’ in Tibetan language denotes ‘Pass of Light’. Sangla travel guide is full of references to the mesmerizing sceneries and picturesque spots. The region and its vicinity are famous for its cherry and apple trees and pine nut orchards. Apart from the amazing natural vegetation, some of the interesting sightseeing places that attract tourists are Kamru Fort, Buddhist Monastery, Sangla Meadow and Tibetan Wood Carving Centre etc. The place is famous worldwide for Kinnauri caps and handmade shawls. The major source of livelihood for the locals is agriculture and related activities. In fact, Bastseri in Sangla is the only area in the region where Chilgoza (a rare dry fruit) is grown.
